6 Tips That Will Transform How You Understand Leadership

A girl asks: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, tell me how to be a good leader.” The mirror answers: “It is not that hard. You don’t need to be almighty and strong. I can give you six pieces of advice that will make you a great leader.”

1. A leader doesn’t always have to be right, instead they can listen and learn from others.

Don’t: always try to be right. Do: listen and learn from the others.

As a leader, when you are open to admitting mistakes and asking for support, your team feels safe taking risks and asking for help.

When someone missteps, show up with a learner’s mindset and listen without judgment. Instead of always being right, try to correct the issue with your teammate. If it is your mistake, take it and own it.

2. A leader doesn’t need to be almighty–they can be vulnerable.

Don’t: try to be a machine. A teammate scares to take days off to take care of their daughter because the leader is working like a machine. Do: be vulnerable. The leader shares that something is going on in her life and she wants support from the teammate.
